Difela reading guide
Reading Sesotho and English hymn text
Difela Hymns keeps the Sesotho text at the centre of each hymn page. Where an English rendering is available, you can use it as a reading aid alongside the displayed Sesotho text.
Choose a comfortable reading view
On a hymn page, use the language controls to read the Sesotho text, the available English text, or both together. The text-size controls can also make a hymn easier to read at home, in rehearsal, or during worship.
Not every hymn has English text. When no English version is displayed, the page intentionally keeps the available Sesotho text visible rather than filling the space with an incomplete translation.
Use translation carefully
A translation can help a reader follow the general sense of a hymn, but it may not preserve every rhythm, idiom, or theological nuance of the Sesotho wording. Read both versions when you can, especially when preparing a reading or teaching material.
For formal publication, teaching, or a printed programme, confirm wording with the appropriate church, hymnal edition, or language authority rather than relying on an online rendering alone.
Help improve the text
If a line appears incomplete, a title differs from your trusted printed copy, or an English rendering needs attention, contact the editorial team with the hymn number, the line in question, and the source you used to check it.
