Difela reading guide
How to find a hymn
This guide explains the quickest ways to locate a hymn when you know its number, title, opening line, or only a phrase remembered from singing.
Start with the hymn number
If you know the printed number, enter it in the hymn search. The number shown on each result is the number used in the collection, making this the most direct way to open a specific hymn.
Some printed hymn numbers may have more than one entry. When that happens, open the matching title and first line to confirm that you have the version you need.
Search with words you remember
You can search by a Sesotho title, English title where one is available, an opening line, or other words from the displayed hymn text. Try a distinctive word or a short phrase if a broad search returns many results.
Spelling can vary between printed editions and transcriptions. If the first search does not find the hymn, try one important word at a time or search without punctuation.
Confirm the hymn before sharing or singing
- Compare the title and first lines with your printed copy where possible.
- Read through the stanzas before a service or practice session.
- Use the previous, next, and related-hymn links to explore nearby entries in the collection.
- Report a possible transcription issue so it can be reviewed.
